Are you ready for the next phase of Simpler Recycling?

From 31 March 2027, the Government's Simpler Recycling requirements are due to extend to all businesses in England, regardless of size.

That means businesses will need to separate waste into:

✅ General waste
✅ Food waste
✅ Dry mixed recycling
✅ Glass waste

For larger employers, these requirements are already coming into force, but next year they will apply to everyone – including the UK's thousands of sole traders and micro businesses.

For many NCDA members, particularly those smaller businesses operating from small industrial units or shared business parks, this could present practical and financial challenges. Finding space for multiple bins, arranging collections and managing additional costs may not be straightforward when you're a one-person business.

The environmental aims behind the changes are understandable, but it's important that implementation also reflects the realities faced by the UK's smallest businesses.
